The aim had been to restore the 'plain' environment around Stonehenge, e.g. removing the car park and local roads. Visitors would then approach the henge on foot (and there were to be facilities for those with mobility issues).
There is a fairly comprehensive website outlining what the visitor centre would have brought. See the original post above.
Best wishes
DavidDavid Gillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13164794689385933318noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8972497915033440413.post-600281834295642052010-06-18T19:32:57.470+01:002010-06-18T19:32:57.470+01:00Thanks for the clarification, I would always suppo...Thanks for the clarification, I would always support that any funds to sustain Stonehenge are invested, but of course, during these times cuts have to be made.

Out of interest, what would said visitor centre bring? I suppose jobs, education, exhibitions, stuff like that.Jack Phttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07016684738003697966noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8972497915033440413.post-60827320928120394982010-06-18T06:27:09.798+01:002010-06-18T06:27:09.798+01:00Jack

The issue is the replacement and relocation of the present unsympathetic visitor facilities.
DavidDavid Gillhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13164794689385933318noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8972497915033440413.post-87321365282680956812010-06-17T23:49:55.759+01:002010-06-17T23:49:55.759+01:00£25 million. Priority should definitely go towards securing the future of this beautiful monument from private/foreign ownership.Jack Phttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07016684738003697966noreply@blogger.com
