Coins and Cyprus: Update on the FOIA Request

Back in November I noted the FOIA request served on the US State Department by:
The ACCG website (Feb 4, 2008) reports on the schedule for disclosure: "requested records may be released or exemptions may be requested no later than May 9, 2008". So it looks as if we will have to wait.

Needless to say, nothing is posted on the IAPN or PNG websites.

The ACCG, IAPN and PNG have submitted many FOIA requests for information over the past four years. The U.S. State Department has been unresponsive in every case. It is for this reason that a FOIA lawsuit was filed. Please note that the lawsuit is not in itself a FOIA request, it is a plea for a declaratory judgement and injunction by the court to force the release of information previously requested and never provided. The State Department has proposed a schedule by which they will either release the requested information or provide a justification for exemption. The plaintiffs may choose to continue court action regarding any or all requested material that is not released under this schedule.

I hope this clarifies the apparent confusion between a FOIA request and a FOIA lawsuit.
