Christopher Chippindale has reviewed James Cuno's
Who Owns Antiquity? (2008) for
The Art Newspaper. Chippindale considers it to be
a clear, well-argued, and too partisan book about the vexed question of how great museums like his should collect ancient objects.
Chippindale continues:
The greedy and knowing acquisition of looted antiquities by its great museums is a bad mistake for the long term.
The recent
announcement by the AAMD concerning the acquisition of antiquities can perhaps be seen as a sea-change for institutions in North America.
